Subject: Miltary Times Inappropriate Editorial

Sir or Ma'am;

By now you are almost certainly aware of the editorial that appeared in the 6 November 2006 Military Times chain of newspapers. You are an advertiser in these papers and in doing so you intend to reach an audience of military members.

It is my wish to inform you that I intend to cancel my subscription to Army Times. A number of other service men and women have expressed a similar response to this editorial. It is my recommendation to you to pull your advertising from these papers.

Even if you do agree with the message of the editorial itself, two factors make it inappropriate and as such I suggest that they, in turn, make Military Times a poor steward for your advertising dollars. First, and most obviously, is the timing. This editorial, despite its self-contained protest to the contrary, is clearly an attempt to sway the 2006 mid-term elections, as you know, to be held the day after this editorial's publication. Second, and most egregiously, those service men and women who might be sympathetic with the message of the editorial could be put into a difficult position with fellows and with superiors if they were to give voice to such sentiment.

In all, it is an exercise of extraordinarily poor judgment on the part of Military Times. I urge you to consider showing your company's support for us as your clientele by ending your association with Military Times at least until such time as they might prove their support and concern for the community they claim to serve.
